Istorija
Metrologija – mokslas apie matavimo priemones. Įvairių šalių metrologai siekia tarptautiniu lygiu naudoti tokius pačius, unifikuotus fizinių dydžių (masė, ilgis, plotas, tūris, temperatūra ir kt.) matų vienetus.

1875 m. gegužės 20 d. tarp 17-os šalių buvo pasirašyta Metro konvencija, pagal kurią šalys susitaria naudoti universalią matų sistemą (SI). Šiuo metu konvenciją yra pasirašiusi jau 51 šalis. Konvencijos pasirašymo data – gegužės 20-oji paskelbta Pasauline metrologų diena.
